Woodford County Junior Fair Board Committee
Statement of Purpose
The Junior Fair Board Committee shall:
- Encourage youth work in the county fair through year round activities.
- Promote participation at the Woodford County Fair.
- Be a recognized committee of the Woodford County Fair Association, Inc., and abide by the Association bylaws and rules.
- Give our youth an opportunity to become involved in the community and learn new skills.
- Provide a platform for youth to do projects to improve the county fair and to provide valuable volunteer services during the fair.
- Be an informal and fun way to teach the basics of the fair organization.
General Information
The Junior Fair Board Committee is a select group of young people who are an intricate part of the Woodford County Fair’s daily operation. They serve alongside senior fair board members providing assistance in all areas and committees. They shall perform job duties during the fair that will change from day to day.
A Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, and Reporter shall serve one-year terms beginning on January 1 of each year. Any person nominated shall have served on the Junior Fair Board Committee at least one year. Only persons in attendance at the meeting may be nominated. Voting shall be by secret ballot. Senior fair board member(s) will serve in an advisory and guidance capacity.
Robert’s Rules of Order shall govern meetings.
Membership
Members shall be selected through an application process and must:
- Be a full time Woodford County resident one year prior to becoming a member.
- Be at least 14 years and not over 20 years of age.
- Complete a WCJFB application by October 1.
- Be recommended by an existing Junior Fair Board Committee member.
A committee of the Junior Fair Board Advisor(s), two (2) Junior Fair Board Committee members, and two (2) Senior Fair Board members shall approve or disapprove applicants. The applicant and a parent or guardian must sign the formal application. A maximum of 25 members shall be on the Junior Fair Board Committee at any one time.
Junior Fair Board Committee Requirements
- Attend at least three of the four scheduled meetings of the Junior Fair Board Committee, plus one meeting a year of the senior fair board. Members will have no voting privileges on senior fair board business.
- Any member missing two (2) meetings unexcused by the Junior Fair Committee Advisor(s) shall have their
- name(s) placed before the Junior Fair Board Committee for a decision of removal from the committee.
- Work where needed a minimum of 24 hours during the eight-day annual fair.
- Be available anytime attending a fair sponsored event.
- Make presence at any fair sponsored event known to Junior Fair Board advisor(s).
- A member may be removed at any time during the year for inappropriate, unacceptable behavior or not full-filling duties.
Not meeting the above requirements may result in the loss of the privilege of being a Junior Fair Board Committee member.
Member Privileges
- Those who have just graduated high school or enrolled in college, and have worked a minimum of 24 hours throughout the current year will be eligible for nomination for the KAFS scholarship drawing.
- After completing three years on the Junior Fair Board, and meet all other requirements of the senior fair board, members are eligible to become a Senior Fair Board member
- Receive a pass for the fair on days you are volunteering.
- Will be given one day to enjoy the fair but must be on call for Fair assistance if needed.
