Agriculture Red Barn

 

Rules:

  1. Sheep must meet Kentucky health requirements.

  2. Sheep must be on the fairgrounds by 5:00 PM EST.

  3. Market lambs must have less than 1/4" fleece.

  4. Exhibitors limited to 10 total head; of that, 6 maximum head of market lambs.

  5. Sheep may only be shown in one individual class.

  6. Showmanship and Market Lamb classes open to all 4-H and FFA members enrolled in sheep project.

  7. All breeding sheep must have registration papers that will be presented to show committee.

  8. Entry fee is $5 per participant.

Classes

   A. Showmanship (Age as of January 1, 2008)

        Senior (14-21 years old)

        Junior (9-13 years old)

        Novice (Under 9 years old)

   B. Breeding Classes

       Show order: Dorset - Hampshire - Southdown - Suffolk - Others (includes crossbred ewes and ewe lambs & all other breeds)

       Premiums: 1st - $15, 2nd - $12, 3rd - $9, 4th - $6, 5th - $5, 6th - $4

       1. Ram lamb (under 1 year old)

       2. Pair of ram lambs

       3. Champion - Reserve Champion Ram

       4. Ewe (1 year old and under 2)

       5. Pair of yearling Ewes

       6. Ewe lamb (under 1 year old)

       7. Pair of ewe lambs

       8. Champion - Reserve Champion Ewe

       9. Junior Flock (1 ram and 2 ewes)

   C. Supreme Champions (selected from breed champions)

       Supreme Champion Ewe - Banner & $50

       Supreme Champion Ram - Banner & $50

       Champion White Face Ram or Ewe - $25

    D. Market Lamb Classes (for youth exhibitors - must be 4-H/FFA Member including 1 novice class)

       By weight - maximum 8 classes

       Premiums: 1st - $15, 2nd - $12, 3rd - $9, 4th - $6, 5th - $5, 6th - $4

       Champion Market Lamb - $50

       Champion Woodford County Market Lamb - $100

Woodford County Fairgrounds (Red Barn)

 

4-H & FFA members will sell beef & lamb ready for market.  Country hams cured by 4-H members will also be sold.  Projects will be sold to highest bidder on a per pound basis.  Cook-out Lunch prior to sale.
