(FOR 4-H MEMBERS ONLY)

 RULES:

  1. Each participant must bring his or her own bicycle, or arrange to share.
  2. Bicycles must be in safe condition.
  3. The contestants will compete in one of two categories – Junior (9-13 years old) and Senior (14-19 years old).  A champion will be chosen in each age category.  A grand champion will also be chosen.  Penalty points will be subtracted in each category for foot touching the ground, tires crossing boundaries, skids, losing control of the bicycle, using brakes excessively, hitting obstacles, failing to give signals, or failing to make smooth, easy turns.
  4. All ages will complete the following course tests:
    1. Test #1 – Emergency Turn and Stop.  The rider will enter a 12” wide lane at average speed, will turn to the right without cutting the corner of the lane, then repeat the test to the left.
    2. Test #2 – Figure Eight Steering.  The rider will take a moving start with both hands on the handlebars and make three complete figure eights.
    3. Test #3 – Double Obstacle Course.  From a riding start, the rider will maneuver slowly between the pairs of obstacles without either tire touching any obstacle.  When rider has gone the entire distance, he or she will turn and repeat in the opposite direction.
    4. Test #4 – Straight Line Test.  From a riding start at slow speed, the rider will travel the entire length of the line with both tires touching the line at all times.
    5. Test #5 – Turning Around.  The rider will travel along the left side of the 12 foot lane, turn clockwise and go in the opposite direction.  Rider will then go along the right side of the lane and turn counterclockwise giving proper signals.
    6. Test #6 – Double Zig-Zag Obstacle Course.  From riding start, the cyclist will zig-zag at a slow rate of speed between the pairs of obstacles without either tire touching an obstacle.  When the rider has traveled the entire distance, he or she will turn and repeat in the opposite direction.
    7. Test #7 – Written test on proper safety laws and bicycle parts.
